2025 Project Announced!
Local Community: KIND (Kids in Need of Defense)
KIND provides pro bono legal services, social services, policy and advocacy work, and family separation response to unaccompanied minors and children. They work tirelessly to ensure children do not appear in court alone, and that they are safe, protected, and valued.
With a national focus on deportations and ICE raids in local communities across the country, a record number of unaccompanied and separated children are being left to navigate the court system without the parents and trusted adults they once lived with; additionally, escalating global conflicts continue to result in unaccompanied minors seeking safety.
Regardless of why a child or minor is unaccompanied, regardless of where they are from or how they ended up in this country, unaccompanied children and minors are vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking, and abuse. They deserve our compassion and protection.
Give here to protect vulnerable, unaccompanied, and separated children as they seek safety, stability, and freedom.
Global Community: World ReliefWorld Relief is a faith-based humanitarian organization that responds to crises around the world such as violence, war, natural disasters, and genocide. They are "inspired by the audacious belief that human flourishing is possible--even in the midst of devastation."
This year has seen devastating cuts to humanitarian aid, once a hallmark of our country. World Relief has stepped in, currently hard at work supporting millions of people in Sudan (extreme violence and displacement), Jamaica (Hurricane Melissa disaster relief), Gaza (starvation and genocide), and the United States (immigrants and refugees), among many others.
World Relief is a Christian organization and is firmly rooted to the belief that Christians are specifically called--and instructed--to sacrificially respond to the needs of others, especially the poor, the orphan, the widow, and the refugee. World Relief is standing strong in its mission to respond, give, and advocate to reinstate humanitarian policies and budgets that have been stripped and gutted.
Give here to respond to the needs of people around the globe (and in our own country) experiencing the devastating effects of war, violence, and natural disaster.
Planet Earth: The Nature Conservancy The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global environmental organization that exists "to conserve the lands and water on which all life depends." Made up of scientists and activists, TNC restores oceans and rivers, re-establishes destroyed habitats, and protects people at severe risk of climate-related emergencies.
This year alone, our country has seen devastating floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and extreme heat waves destroying communities. (While my own daughter was at summer camp in New Hampshire, we heard the news of the summer camp in Texas literally swept away by floods. Could anything be more horrific?) And yet, our nation continues to see drastic cuts to climate science and environmental protections for our land and water.
Without earth, there is no us. While we work to protect people, we forget that if we don't also protect our planet, our efforts are in vain. Wendell Berry put it clearly and soberly this way: "There is in fact no distinction between the fate of the land and the fate of the people. When one is abused, the other suffers."
Give here to help preserve our beautiful, one-of-a-kind planet and the plants, animals, and people who live here.
