2024: Supporting Survivors of Sex Trafficking

  • Organizations: Jasmine Grace Outreach + New Hope Girls
  • Fundraising Goal: $40,000 ($20,000 each)

This year, we’re supporting 2 wonderful organizations fighting human trafficking, abuse, and exploitation. The issue of human trafficking has been important to us for many years–previous projects supported Love146 and the International Justice Mission–this year, we’re partnering with Jasmine Grace Outreach and New Hope Girls.

Human Trafficking

Around the globe, an estimated 27 million people are exploited for labor, services, and commercial sex. (https://www.state.gov/reports/2024-trafficking-in-persons-report/). But this is not just a global problem - human trafficking is tragically prevalent in our own country, representing an estimated $9.8 billion in the U.S. A trafficker can make up to $100,000 a year per victim, according to the U.S. Justice Department. The average victim may be forced to have sex up to 20-48 times a day. In the United States, 83 percent of trafficking victims are American and 50 percent are children. The average age of a trafficking victim is 13. (https://naplesshelter.org/trafficking/)

Often, victims are not kidnapped by strangers–they are manipulated, groomed, blackmailed, and coerced by people they already know. Many are already vulnerable due to family circumstances and trauma–traffickers are experts at finding and preying on victims.

Safe Homes

Both Jasmine Grace Outreach and New Hope Girls operate residential facilities where victims of human trafficking, sex trafficking, and abuse can safely recover, heal, and grow. These safe homes are truly where victims become survivors, and are often the turning point for a woman or young girl–the home is where she can begin to trust other people and begin a path towards a new life.

Jasmine Grace Outreach supports women across New England who have been trafficked into the commercial sex trade. Jasmine Grace and her team are all survivors–they know firsthand how a seemingly ordinary person can suddenly find herself the victim of the commercial sex trade. They also know the myriad of struggles faced by victims and survivors–trauma, guilt, shame, homelessness, and substance use disorder (substances are often introduced by traffickers to keep victims dependent on them). Women experiencing homelessness can receive Bags of Hope filled with hygiene items, and women escaping the sex trade can find recovery, healing, and safety at Living Hope Farms.

New Hope Girls works in the Dominican Republic to rescue girls who have been trafficked for the commercial sex trade. The average age of rescued girls is 8 years old; they have rescued girls as young as 3. New Hope Girls works with local law enforcement to put perpetrators behind bars; they also serve girls through a weekly outreach program. Rescued girls can be safely loved and protected at a safe home, while mothers can be employed to make handmade bags which are sold and used to help fund more rescue and recovery efforts.

Our goal is to raise $40,000 ($20,000 for each organization) to support these safe homes as they continue to expand to meet the needs of so many young women and girls.
